Great day trip, its a 2 mile hike up to the falls. Taking the lower trail will take you along the water and has a lot of rock steps and inclines but the more scenic way to go. Once you make it to the top it is well worth the trip. The falls are something to see, and there is a good size pool at the bottom to swim in IF you're willing to stand the 56 degree water. Taking the upper trail back down is a easier walk - no steps and clear trail. It is only a short drive west from Blacksburg and a pretty easy hike to the falls. I definitely recommend it.
